What you'll find
If your wee ones love being outdoors, spotting wildlife and burning off some energy, WWT Castle Espie is a brilliant family day out.
Set on the shores of beautiful Strangford Lough, this wetland centre is packed with birds, nature trails and hands-on activities that keep children entertained while sneaking in a little learning too!
One of the highlights has to be the fantastic outdoor adventure play areas. Little explorers can tackle climbing towers, zoom down the zip line, cross the wobbly bridges, build dens and discover the magical Secret Swamp with its fairy doors hidden amongst the trees. There's also an indoor soft play barn for children under 115cm, making it a great option whatever the weather.
As you wander around the reserve you'll find:
Hundreds of ducks, geese and swans from around the world
Bird hides overlooking Strangford Lough
Nature trails perfect for little legs
Seasonal pond dipping and family activities during school holidays
Daily bird hand-feeding sessions (a real favourite with the kids!)
The whole site feels relaxed, with plenty of space for children to run, explore and enjoy nature at their own pace.
For the grown ups
While the children are busy exploring, you can enjoy a coffee or lunch in the Kingfisher CafƩ, which serves breakfasts, lunches, homemade treats and children's options.
There are lots of picnic tables throughout the site too, so you're welcome to bring your own lunch and make a full day of it. The buggy-friendly paths make getting around easy with younger children.

WWT Castle Espie is much more than just a nature reserve. It's one of those rare places where children can climb, splash, explore, learn and play all in one visit.
