If you’re looking for a brilliant family day out in Bangor, Ward Park is one of those places that ticks every box, a great play park, peaceful walks, animals to spot, and plenty of space for a picnic or a slow buggy stroll.

The play park at Ward Park is always a winner with wee ones. It’s a brilliant space with plenty of equipment for different ages, so whether you’ve got a toddler who loves climbing or older kids who want to burn off energy, it keeps everyone happy.

One of the loveliest hidden gems in Ward Park is the sensory garden. It’s a calm, colourful area that feels like a wee peaceful escape from the busy play areas. It’s such a nice touch and makes Ward Park feel a bit extra special compared to your average park.

Ward Park is brilliant for walks, especially if you’ve got toddlers who don’t like to walk too far. The paths are wide and easy, making it ideal for:

  • buggy walks

  • balance bikes and scooters

  • little legs learning to walk longer distances

  • family strolls without stress

There’s a lovely loop around the park with trees, open grassy areas and scenic corners that change with the seasons.

One of the biggest highlights for kids is the wildlife. Ward Park is full of birds, and

there are animals to see within the park lots of ducks in the river and they have a fabulous bug hotel.

After all that running about, you’ll definitely want a wee café stop. Ward Park has a café on site which is ideal for grabbing:

  • a hot coffee

  • snacks for the kids

  • something sweet as a treat

We loved this park, it’s got that perfect mix of play, nature and calm walks, plus the sensory garden and animal spotting makes it feel like a proper wee adventure.
