If you’re looking for a relaxed, affordable family day out in Northern Ireland, Lough Shore Park in Antrim is a brilliant choice. Set right on the edge of Lough Neagh, this park has everything you need for a fun-filled outing with toddlers and young children, fresh air, plenty of space to run wild, great play areas, and lovely walks that aren’t too long for little legs.
A nautical themed play park with the focal point of the play area; a large ship, which also has wheelchair access. Suitable for all ages, with a tall tower tube slide, a large ship with bridges, climbing nets and slides. Fenced in and using rubber safety flooring your wee ones won’t want to leave.
With attractive surroundings you can trek the edge of the Lough through Rea’s Wood. Not every park is buggy-friendly, but Lough Shore Park is great for families with pushchairs. The paths are wide and easy to manage, making it ideal for:
buggy walks with babies
scooter rides for toddlers
little ones learning to ride bikes
relaxed strolls without worrying about rough terrain
The lakeside walkway is especially lovely. Even if you’re not up for a long walk, it’s a peaceful route where kids can point out birds, boats, and ducks along the water.
Head to the exhibition centre, perfect for those rainy days or if you want a little indoor activity alongside your park visit. Inside you’ll find:
an exciting exhibition space that tells the story of Lough Neagh, its wildlife, local folklore and natural heritage
family-friendly displays that are easy to explore with kids
Lough Shore Park is picnic-ready! There are benches and tables scattered around, there is a cafe serving snack and ice cream and also a restaurant with some lovely views to choose from.
Want to make a weekend of it? Check out Blairs Castle Wood for an amazing stay.
